
Bucknell Women's Water Polo Goes 2-1 on Second Day of Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team finished the weekend with a 3-1 record after a 2-1 second day at the Grove City Invitational on Saturday, April 13. Bucknell started the weekend with a 16-5 victory over Penn State-Behrend on Friday, and earned wins over Washington & Jefferson (13-3) and Gannon (11-5) on Saturday, before falling 9-8 to Slippery Rock in the final contest of the weekend.
Against Washington & Jefferson, sophomore Kate Webber and freshman Cody Keffer led the way offensively, sharing the team-lead for goals with three each. Sophomore Kelly Hofstetter and freshman Eileen Ketterer were also active on the offense, tallying three points with one goal and two assists each.
Freshman Ashley Aiken continued her defensive prowess, recording five steals in the event to go along with one goal and one assist. Junior Lindsay Chesterfield stopped seven shots in net, allowing just the three goals.
In the Gannon game, it was another rookie providing the scoring as Meg Blitzer found the back of the net four times to lead the squad in goals. Keffer joined her classmate at the top of the list in points, tallying a team-high five with one goal and four assists, in addition to grabbing a team-best four steals and registering two ejections drawn. Chesterfield had her second seven-save performance in goal for Bucknell.
The Bison fell just short against Slippery Rock, dropping a 9-8 decision to The Rock. Hofstetter led the team with four goals and two assists, while senior Brooke Rea joined her with three goals. Keffer was the only other Bucknell player to find the back of the net, recording one score and one assist. Chesterfield made eight saves in the losing effort.
Bucknell stands at 10-15 overall and are in action next at the Southern Division Championships on April 19-21 at Villanova.
