LOPATCONG, N.J. - Nick Leibowitz fired a one-over-par 72 to lead Bucknell's men's golf team to a solid round of 300, and the Bison stand in third place after the first round of the Lafayette Invitational.
On the par-71, Architects Club course, Leibowitz shot 37-35 and stands in a seven-way tie for second, just a single stroke behind individual leader Seth Unterschute of Maryland-Baltimore County. Leibowitz's back-nine 35 was the best in the field.
Meanwhile, all five Bison golfers broke 80 and the team stands just 16-over-par after 18 holes. Scott Leeder shot 75 for Bucknell, followed by Alex Dolle with 76 and Abbie Valentine with 77. Dan Gale's 79 was not counted.
Bucknell's 300 team score was its lowest of the spring season. The Bison carded a 295 in the second round of the St. Bonaventure Invitational in the fall.
Duquesne counted two 72s and two 74s en route to a 292 aggregate. The Dukes have a seven stroke lead over UMBC and an eight-stroke cushion over the Bison. St. Joseph's (302), Drexel (303), Hofstra (304), Siena (306), Monmouth (307), Cornell (311) and Wagner (312) round out a jam-packed top 10.
Host Lafayette is the only other Patriot League team in the field. The Leopards, who will join the Bison at next week's Patriot League Tournament, are tied for 12th after shooting 316 on Saturday.
Round Two is slated for Sunday morning.
