Bison Women's Tennis Shuts Out Towson, 7-0

TOWSON, Md. - The Bucknell women's tennis team got a strong performance in its singles play, winning all but one match in straight sets, and the squad picked up the doubles point by taking two of the three matches, on the way to a 7-0 blanking of Towson on Saturday, April 13.
In doubles play, senior Kristin Inglis and freshman Tanya Sichko teamed up to hand Stacey Pignatelli and Abby Sharp an 8-2 loss at No. 2, before junior Jill Wurzburg and sophomore Samantha Berthod secured the doubles point for the Orange and Blue with a 9-7 decision over Katie Long and Sarah Dumansky at No. 3.
Wurzburg was the only Bison singles player to go to a third set, but the No. 1 player came out victorious in a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Emily Weichert. Freshman Nadezda Curcic played at the No. 2 spot, defeating Towson's Lindsay Brown 6-2, 7-5, before classmate Ashley Diers picked up a hard fought 7-5, 7-5 decision over Long at No. 3.
Inglis surrendered just one game to Dumansky at No. 4, coming away with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Sichko hung on for a 7-5 win in the first set at No. 5 over Pignatelli, and went on to defeat the Tiger 6-3 in the second set for her 20th singles victory of the season. Berthod rounded out the singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Sharp at No. 6.
Bucknell improves to 11-8 overall on the season. The Bison will be in action next on Sunday, April 14, when they travel to Loyola for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Greyhounds.
