LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Sunny skies and mild temperatures greeted nearly 70 players, as spring football practice officially got underway Thursday at Bucknell. Under the directorship of head coach Tom Gadd, the Bison will stage 15 workouts over the coming weeks, culminating in the April 21 spring intrasquad game.
Thursday also marked the first chance for new offensive coordinator Kurt Beathard to see his troops in action. Quarterback Todd Wenrich will return as a senior in the fall, while All-Patriot Leaguer Jim Horan is back to lead a deep and talented stable of receivers. The Bison must replace four starters on the offensive line.
On defense, Bucknell returns seven starters from a unit that ranked among the stingiest in all of Division I-AA. First Team All-American Adam Lord, all-conference linebacker Joe Massey and leading tackler Stephane Pluviose headline the returnees on defense.
All Bucknell spring practices are open to the public and free of charge.
