Bucknell Men's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight, 5-2 over IPFW

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Bucknell freshmen Leland Tien and Gerald DiChiara were victorious in both singles and doubles to lead the Bison to their fourth straight win to start the spring season, 5-2 over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
The rookie duo teamed for an 8-0 whitewash of Dan Bieberich and Adam Arata at No. 3 doubles, helping the Bison clinch the doubles point. At No. 4 singles, Tien defeated Shawn Fisher, 6-3, 6-1. At fifth singles, DiChiara quickly dispatched Bieberich, 6-2, 6-3.
Also winning easily in singles were Todd Jacobs, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Matt Blume at No. 3, and Scott Allen, a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Arata.
IPFW gained its points in evenly contested matches at first and second singles. Both contests were decided in "super tiebreakers" in lieu of third sets, as Bucknell had already clinched the team victory. At No. 1, Ilyes Hassib defeated Nick Denefrio, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3. At No. 2, Ian Leonhardt outlasted Joe Menezes, 5-7, 6-2, 11-9.
Denefrio and Menezes teamed for a crucial doubles win, a 6-4 decision over Blume and Fisher that clinched the doubles point after IPFW prevailed at No. 1 doubles.
Bucknell concludes its Spring Break trip on Friday afternoon against Patriot League newcomer American.
