Bison Track & Field Teams Compete in Final Indoor Home Meet of the Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. - While a small portion of the team competed at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, the remainder of the Bucknell University indoor track & field squads made the most of their final meet inside the Gerhard Fielhouse this afternoon at the BU Winter Classic.
The Bison women's team picked up three individual victories and one relay win in the non-scoring meet. The men's squad came away with one first-place, four second-place and two third-place performances.
Sophomore Maria Garcia grabbed her third win of the season in the weight throw with a meet-best toss of 48'3 ?". Freshman Monique Boley was also impressive, as she placed first in the 500m dash in 1:18.23, the eight-best time in school history. Freshman Jennifer Marsh won the 1,000m run in 3:03.61. Bucknell's 1,600m relay also came out on top, as Boley, junior Nicki Piper, freshman Kiley MacDonald and freshman Rehana Lanewala broke the tape in 4:00.03.
Placing second for the Bison's women's team were sophomore Laura Schaffer, junior Michelle Baylor and the distance medley relay team. Schaffer registered a throw of 46'11 ?" in the weight throw, the 10th-best mark in school history, and Baylor recorded a time of 3:05.52 in the 1,000m run. The foursome of senior Becki Marshall, senior Kristin Kyzmir, freshman Kelly Raffety and senior Kristin Ferrell raced to a 12:38.83 clocking in the DMR.
Contributing third-place efforts were freshman Kiley MacDonald, senior Theresa Dennis and senior Samantha Klotz. MacDonald raced to a time of 8.55 in the 55m hurdles, good for 10th on the Bison's all-time top-10 list. Dennis notched a 5:11.50 in the mile, and Klotz cleared 10'10" in the pole vault, second-best in BU history.
Junior Matias Palavecino was the lone winner for the men's team. Palavecino took first in the 1,000m run in 2:33.94. Placing second for the Bison were sophomore Jeffrey Arek in the pole vault (15'3"), junior Adam Kaufman in the weight throw (50'9 ?"), junior Matt Solomon in the 200m dash (22.87) and the distance medley relay team of sophomore Wes Reinhardt, Cotie Strong, Kevin Walsh and Evan Honeyfield (10:30.03).
Reinhardt also took third in the mile (4:22.19), and Strong placed third in the 500m dash in 1:06.61.
Bucknell will travel to Army for the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 15-17.
