LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Stephanie Bango has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of January in track & field.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Feb. 4. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of February, as selected by their respective coaches, were junior Kate Franks in basketball and freshman Jamie Flick in swimming & diving.
Bango has enjoyed an outstanding indoor track campaign this season. The middle distance runner has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800m run, an event in which she is currently ranked 12th nationally. She has also reset her own school record in the 800 (2:09.08), and has helped the Bison break the school record in the distance medley relay with a time of 11:50.74.
Bango owns both the indoor and outdoor school records in the 800m run, 1,600m relay, 3,200m relay and the distance medley relay.
Bucknell will send part of its team to the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Feb. 8-9, while the remainder of the squad will stay at home to compete in the Bucknell Winter Classic.
