LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's crew teams hosted the sixth annual Erg Armageddon yesterday at Davis Gymnasium and enjoyed several outstanding individual performances.
The Bison took on competition from Franklin & Marshall, Fordham, LaSalle, Lehigh, Binghamton, Penn State, and Susquehanna. This year's event was the largest ever with nearly 300 rowers competing. The women's team broke two Erg Armageddon records and clinched 15 of the 21 available medals, the team's best performance in the history of the event. The men's team had a strong showing as well with six top-five finishes and four medals.
Junior Lisa Baranik used an incredible finish to set the new Erg Armageddon record in the Women's Varsity Openweight with a time of 7:20.8. With 200 meters left, Baranik sprinted to come from behind and tie for first place on the very last stroke. Freshman Laura Jacque demolished the former meet record in the Women's Novice 2k by over 12 seconds with a 7:18.5 clocking.
The women's team swept the Novice Women's 2k event, taking all three medals and the top four places. The Bison also swept the Novice Women's 500m Dash. Gold medals were awarded to the women's team for the Novice Lightweight 2k, Varsity 2k, Varsity 500m Dash, Novice Mixed Double and Varsity Mixed Double.
On the men's side, bronze medals were awarded for the Varsity Lightweight 2k and Varsity 500m Dash. The Bison earned gold medals in the Novice Mixed Double and Varsity Mixed Double.
