LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman swimmer Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) is assisting with a fundraiser for 10-year old friend, Joey Tomlinson, who has been fighting Leukemia. This past weekend, Bauer sold 50 kangaroo beanie babies dressed in a tee shirt that says "Joeys for Joey" to coaches and teammates.
The freshman gave a helping hand to the Tomlinson family to help raise money for the youngster that has been fighting the disease for over two years. The Tomlinson family has been involved with Bauer's local swim team. Joey Tomlinson was diagnosed with Leukemia in the spring of 2001. Tomlinson is now at his home in isolation. The school has provided him with teleconferencing with a video feedback so he can still attend his classes. The fourth-grader attends Salford Hill Elementary School.
"Joey's strength and bravery has inspired so many people and touched so many lives," mentioned Bauer. "He will never hesitate to tell you that he is going to be fine and elaborate on his plans for life after his treatment process. He wants to be a vet or work with children with cancer. He amazes me!"
The Tomlinson family is holding a fundraiser called "Joeys for Joey". The baby kangaroo beanie babies are wearing tee shirts that have "Joeys for Joey" printed on the front. If you would like to own a cute cuddly Joey of your very own and help this little boy in his fight against Leukemia, please mail your request indicating the number of Joeys you would like, along with a check, made out to "The Joey Tomlinson Medical Fund", for $13 to cover the cost of shipping to: "Joeys for Joey", 106 Memory Lane, Telford, Pa. 18969. Please also include a where you would like it delivered.
