Bucknell Field Hockey Team Clinches PL Tournament Berth

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Bucknell field hockey team will be returning to the four-team Patriot League Tournament next weekend, despite a 4-0 loss to American Saturday in the final conference game of the 2002 season.
Magdalena Aguilar scored three goals and assisted on another to help snap Bucknell's two-game winning streak. The Bison fell to 7-10 overall and 3-3 in Patriot League play, while American improved to 9-7, 4-2.
Bucknell will be the No. 4 seed at the Patriot League Tournament and will play host and top seed Lafayette next Friday at noon. The Leopards swept through the regular season with a 6-0 PL record and are ranked 19th nationally. Holy Cross clinched the No. 2 seed with a 1-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday and will face No. 3 American in the other semifinal contest Friday at 2 p.m. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday at Rappolt Field in Forks Township, Pa.
Bucknell makes its first Patriot League Tournament appearance since 2000, when it advanced to the league title match for the second straight year.
Shannon Goans scored her first goal of the year 8:30 into the contest to stake American to a 1-0 halftime lead. Aguilar took over in the second half, scoring her 13th, 14th and 15th goals of the season, all in a span of 10:13.
Sonja Wettergreen made nine saves for the Bison, while American's Laura Miller turned aside all eight shots on goal. American outshot Bucknell 15-8 and held an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.
The Bison have one final tuneup prior to the PL Tournament, Sunday at Georgetown at 1 p.m.
