LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Amy Marvel (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock H.S.), a midfielder on the field hockey team, has been named the Bull Run Inn Bison Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 6.
Marvel helped lead Bucknell to a 2-0 week with goals in victories over Saint Francis (Pa.) and Patriot League rival Lehigh. Both goals came on penalty strokes.
The Bison fell behind Saint Francis 1-0 in the opening 10 minutes, but Marvel tied the game just under two minutes after the Red Flash goal, setting the stage for a 4-2 Bucknell win. Her goal against Lehigh gave the Bison a 2-0 lead just 33 seconds before halftime.
Marvel, a team co-captain and steady two-way performer, ranks third on the team with eight points, coming on three goals and two assists. She has converted both her penalty-stroke attempts.
The victory over Lehigh was a crucial one in the Patriot League race, as the Bison improved to 2-2 (5-6 overall) and moved back into a top-four position in the conference standings. The top four teams advance to the postseason league tournament.
Bucknell returns to action this Tuesday at sixth-ranked Penn State. Game time is 7 p.m.
