Bucknell Women's Tennis Completes Play at Binghamton Duals

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's tennis team completed play at the Binghamton Duals on Sunday, October 6. On the second day of competition, the Bison lost just three singles matches and went undefeated in doubles play.
Against Binghamton in singles play, the Orange and Blue got a win from freshman Veronica Brown at number two in the form of a 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 decision over Justina Hakimi. Sophomore Tanya Sichko continued the winning with a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Amy Weissberg at number three. Senior Jill Wurzburg made it three straight for Bucknell, defeating Alexis Brill in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, at the fourth flight. At number six, junior Samantha Berthod picked up a 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 win over Erin Monaco, before freshman Chelsea Mills defeated Amy Linda, 6-1, 6-0, at number seven. Sophomore Jill Merselis rounded out the Bison winners with a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Jonali Dutta at the eighth flight.
In singles action against Niagara, only five players competed due to the Purple Eagles roster size. Brown, Sichko, Wurzburg and Berthod were all victorious again in the match. Brown won 6-4, 6-1 over Danielle Grenier at number two. It took three sets for victory, but Sichko fought back to beat Colleen Willick, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8, at number three. Wurzburg claimed a 7-6, 6-1 decision at the fourth flight over Colleen Carey, and Berthod moved up one flight to number five, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Kendra Daigler.
The duo of Curcic and classmate Ashley Diers teamed up to defeat St. Bonaventure's Natalie Rumpel and Michelle Kerney, 8-4, in doubles play. Wurzburg and Berthod were the only other Bucknell pair to compete, winning 8-3 against Jen Iannone and Kasey Matzel at second doubles.
Bucknell is in action next at the Patriot League Flighted Tournament at Army on Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20.
