Bucknell Women's Tennis Competes at Binghamton Duals

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Sophomore Tanya Sichko, and freshmen Veronica Brown and Rheanna Gaskin each won in straight sets as the Bucknell women's tennis team faced St. Bonaventure in singles play at the Binghamton Blind Duals. The Orange and Blue also took on Binghamton and Niagara in doubles action on Saturday, October 5. The dual meets are non-scoring with eight singles and four doubles flights for each match (where available).
Against St. Bonaventure, sophomore Nadezda Curcic played at the first flight, defeating Natalie Rumpel 6-2, 6-4. Brown took on Michelle Kearney at number two, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Sichko played Jennifer Iannone at the third flight, defeating the Bonnie by the same score. Playing at number four was senior Jill Wurzburg, who came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kasey Mutzel. Gaskin rounded out Bucknell's five against St. Bonaventure, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Erin Sullivan.
Also competing were junior Samantha Berthod and freshman Chelsea Mills. Berthod took on Amy Linda of Binghamton, winning 3-6, 6-0, 10-6. Mills challenged Jonali Dutta of Binghamton for a 6-0, 6-0 win.
In doubles play against Binghamton, the duo of Brown and Gaskin won 8-3 over Alexis Brill and Amy Weissberg at number one. Sichko and Wurzburg were the other Bison winners against the Bearcats, defeating Justina Hakimi and Erin Monaco, 8-3, at number three.
Against Niagara, the second and third flights were victorious in a match that featured only three doubles bouts. Curcic and sophomore Ashley Diers won 8-4 against Mariam Al-Shikarchy and Danielle Grenier at number two, and Sichko and Wurzburg were 8-2 winners over Colleen Carey and Kendra Daigler at number three.
Bucknell is in action again on Sunday, October 6, facing Binghamton in singles play at 9:00 a.m.
