GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team fell for the first time this weekend, dropping a 17-10 decision to 12th-ranked Princeton on Saturday, October 19. With the loss, the Bison fell out of contention for first place at the inter-regional competition at Grove City.
BU hung with the nationally ranked squad for the first three quarters, trailing by just three entering the fourth. But a 6-2 fourth frame in the Tigers favor spelled doom for Bucknell and Princeton went on to claim the 17-10 victory.
On offense, the Orange and Blue got two goals each from senior Chris Saxton, and sophomores James Danforth and Paul Yerkes. Sophomore Elliot Benoist and freshman Bradley Roslyn led the way with two assists a piece.
Sophomore Ernest Martin was solid in net, tying his season-high for saves with 13, while also leading the team with four steals.
Bucknell falls to 8-11 overall and will take on Johns Hopkins, the second-ranked team in Division III, at 3:30 p.m. for third place.
