LORETTO, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team reached double figures in the win column for the first time since 1993 with a 2-1 victory at St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, October 15. It is only the ninth time in the 73 years of the program that a squad has recorded 10 or more wins.
Sophomore Greg Buzzell and junior Chris Beekman each scored goals to lift the squad past the Red Flash. Buzzell netted his first goal of the season, and the first of the game, at 31:33, blasting a shot past St. Francis goalkeeper Joe Alianiello from 20 yards out to spot the Orange and Blue to a 1-0 lead. Junior Patrick Glennon and sophomore Ori Adrabi were credited with assists on the play.
Beekman would extend the BU advantage to 2-0 in the match's 55th minute, scoring off assists from sophomore Jonathan Hemmert and senior Tom Ryan. With the helper, Hemmert moves to within two assists of the school single season record. He currently has 10 on the season.
The host team tallied its only goal of the match just over five minutes later when Bob Weney scored off an assist from Gary Burke at the 60:07 mark.
Bucknell freshman goalkeeper Adam Edwards faced 11 St. Francis shots, recording six saves.
Bucknell improves to 10-2-1 overall. The Bison next face 17th-ranked Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19.
