Bucknell Men's Water Polo Drops Overtime Decision to Redlands, 7-6

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bucknell men's water polo team closed out its California trip with a heartbreaking 7-6 overtime loss to Redlands at the Claremont Convergence on Saturday, October 12, 2002. The Orange and Blue finished the weekend with a 3-1 record.
For the fourth straight game, the Bison shutout their opponent in the opening quarter, this time jumping out to a 2-0 lead over the top-ranked Division III school in the country. The Orange and Blue extended their lead to 5-2 with a three goal second period, before the Bulldogs came charging back to cut it to 5-4 in the third, and tie the contest at 5-5 to end the fourth period. Redlands jumped ahead 6-5 in the first overtime session, and matched Bucknell's only goal in the second extra session to walk away with the 7-6 victory.
Junior Jamie Saettele scored three goals for Bucknell, while assisting on two others. Senior Chris Saxton, and freshmen Bradley Roslyn and Brad Unroe accounted for BU's other goals. Senior Daniel Lonnerdal led the defensive attack with a team-high five steals.
Sophomore Ernest Martin played the entire game in net, stopping five Bulldog shots and grabbing four steals.
Bucknell falls to 6-10 overall and will be in competition next at the Inter-regional competition at Grove City, Pa., on Friday-Saturday, October 18-19. The Bison face Washington & Jefferson at 10:50 a.m. on Friday, before taking on Penn State-Behrend at 8:10 p.m. that evening.
