Bison Men's Water Polo Wins Third Straight at Claremont Convergence

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bucknell men's water polo team extended its win streak to three games with a 15-3 victory over Occidental on the second day of the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, Calif. The Bison improve to 6-9 with the win on October 12, 2002.
Bucknell used solid defense to shut out the Tigers in the first quarter, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. BU outscored Occidental 3-2 in the second, before holding the team scoreless again in the third period and scoring twice to take a 10-2 advantage. The Orange and Blue put the game away in the fourth, scoring five times to the Tiger's one for the final of 15-3.
The Bison got three goals each from juniors Scott Afzal and Jamie Saettele, while seniors Daniel Lonnerdal and Adam Yerkes, and freshman Lars Weborg added two apiece. Also scoring once were sophomores Elliot Benoist and Paul Yerkes, and freshman Bradley Roslyn. Paul Yerkes added a team-high four assists.
On defense, freshman Brad Unroe was the story, collecting a team and career-high eight steals. Sophomore Ernest Martin was in the cage for BU, recording five saves and three steals.
Bucknell improves to 6-9 overall and faces Redlands, the number one Division III school in the country, in the final game of the tournament at 9:00 p.m. ET.
