LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University track & field standouts Noel Powell and Andrea Nyce have been named as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.
Both Powell and Nyce were honored after establishing new school records on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Bison Octagonal. Powell, a sophomore, smashed the Bucknell indoor record in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 24'9 ?", over seven inches better than the previous record. Powell's jump also met the NCAA Provisional standard, and helped the Bison defeat seven other schools and capture the meet title.
Nyce, a senior, reset her own school record in the pole vault on Saturday with a winning vault of 12'1", over one and half feet better than her nearest competitor. Her performance also helped Bucknell's women's team place first among eight schools in the team standings.
Bucknell's men's and women's teams will return to action next Saturday. Part of the team will compete in the National Invitational held at Penn State, while the remainder of the Bison will participate in the Bison Open back at the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
