LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Michael Lookingland II took a pass from classmate Greg Buzzell and junior Nick Taylor to score what would prove to be the game-winner in Bucknell's home opening contest against Robert Morris on Saturday, September 8. The Bison held on to defeat the Colonials 1-0 to improve to 8-1-1 at home in the past two years. For Robert Morris, it was the fourth straight one goal defeat of the season.
BU and Robert Morris were evenly matched for much of the first half, but at the 38:40 mark, the Bison finally broke through the Colonial defense as Lookingland scored the first goal of his career to give the host team a 1-0 lead. The assist was also the first point of Buzzell's collegiate tenure.
The Orange and Blue had several scoring opportunities in the game. Senior captain Andrew Aurand, making his first start after recovering from knee surgery in the preseason, hit the cross bar, the left post and had two shots just sail over the net. Bucknell outshot Robert Morris, 8-4, in the opening stanza, but the Colonials turned it up in the second, getting 11 shots off to BU's seven as both teams ended the contest with 15 shots.
Bison goalkeeper Steve Whitaker made six saves in the contest, while Robert Morris' Matt Henson stopped two Bucknell shots.
Bucknell continues its homestand with an important Patriot League opening contest against Holy Cross on Saturday, September 15, at 3:00 p.m.
