EMMITSBURG, Md. - Bucknell junior men's soccer player Nick Taylor hit a shot off the post just into overtime, but it was Mount St. Mary's defender Steve Novak who found the back of the net first to lead the host Mount to a 1-0 overtime victory over the Bison on Wednesday, September 5.
In a physical match, junior Brandon Scarfield was awarded a free kick in front of the goal and sent a pass to Novak who thumped a low-line drive into the left corner of the net 5:09 into the first overtime session. The Mount outshot the Bison, 15-13, with Bucknell goalkeeper Steve Whitaker registering nine saves in the losing effort.
The Orange and Blue, who defeated Mount St. Mary's at home 1-0 in overtime last season, open their home ledger with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Robert Morris on Saturday, September 8. The Bison head into the contest with an overall record of 0-2.
