Sophomore Savannah Rennels accomplished the hat trick and led the Bucknell University women's soccer team to a 3-2 non-league win over host St. Francis (Pa.).
With the win the Bison improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Red Flash drop to 1-1.
After falling behind 1-0, Rennels brought the Bison even when she scored on a cross from junior Lauren Schwarz with 9:30 left in the first half. Rennels then gave Bucknell the lead for good on a sensational play with just over two minutes remaining in the opening stanza. After taking a pass from senior Anna Hall, Rennels dribbled her way through five Red Flash defenders before potting her second goal of the game.
Rennels found paydirt one last time when she scored off an assist by freshman Ashley Dincher with 34:26 to go in the game. St. Francis would draw to within 3-2 after scoring with just under three minutes left, but the Bison held on down the stretch to pick up the victory.
LORETTO, Pa.-- Junior Laurie Purse had a solid game between the pipes for the Bison, posting five saves. Bucknell put up 17 shots on goal, but Red Flash keeper Allison Tidball made 11 saves between the pipes.
Bucknell plays its home-opener on Sunday when it hosts Marist College starting at noon.
