Bucknell University head football coach Tom Gadd spoke this afternoon at the Lewisburg Touchdown Club Luncheon at the Lewisburg Hotel. The following are quotes taken from his speech. Bucknell travels to Cornell University this Saturday in a 1 p.m. start.
On last week's 38-17 loss to Kent State: "We were physically able to win the battle up front, on both sides of the football. But the turnovers and the big plays we gave up cost us."
"We did a lot of things we can build off. But we understand that there is also an urgency when we go back into practice to work on what we did wrong."
"We can't keep doing the same things wrong. What happens is opposing teams will watch film and do the same thing that Kent State did against us, like throwing the ball long, spreading out the offense and throwing into the flats."
"From a defensive standpoint, we were able to physically stop their running game, and one of the reasons is because our linebackers and defensive front played well."
On QB Todd Wenrich: "If you watched Todd on Saturday, you could tell he really enjoyed playing the game. He had a lot of fun, but he was also in control. To play so well against a team like Kent State, to put behind what happened the year before and to play with that much confidence, is really a credit to him."
"When Todd starts to realize that our offensive line will protect him, and that we're going to be able to run the football, his confidence will only continue to grow. When things start to click, he'll become even more relaxed. What happens with quarterbacks is they grown into the position, and I really think Todd took a major step toward that on Saturday. "
"We beat Cornell pretty good last year, but we're expecting them to be ready for us this time."
