PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior co-captain Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) scored five goals for Bucknell, but it wasn't enough as the 20th-ranked Bison men's water polo team fell, 9-8, to 19th-ranked St. Francis (N.Y.) in their final game of the North/South Invitational at Princeton on Sunday.
The game, which was the fifth one-goal decision the Orange and Blue have played to this season, continued Bucknell's difficulty against nationally ranked teams. The Bison are now 0-5 on the year against teams ranked higher than them in the national standings.
In addition to McCarty, junior Adam Yerkes (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) and sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) were BU's other scorers, tallying two goals and one goal, respectively. Yerkes also added two assists and one steal.
Bison goalkeeper David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) was a menace in the cage, making the game as close as it was by stopping 17 St. Francis shots.
The Orange and Blue fall to 4-7 overall and are in action next when they travel to the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, Calif. over fall break, Oct. 12-13.
