STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Senior Ali Chandler and junior Lauren Schwarz scored one goal apiece, but it wasn't enough as the Bucknell University women's soccer team dropped a 9-2 decision to seventh-ranked Penn State University this evening in State College.
The Bison, however, became the only team other than national powers Notre Dame and North Carolina to score two goals against the Nittany Lions this season. Tonight also marked the first time Bucknell has ever scored a goal on Penn State's Jeffrey Field.
Penn State (5-2-0), the three-time defending Big Ten Conference champion, led Bucknell (4-2-0) 8-0 at the intermission. Chandler put the Bison on the scoreboard in the 64th minute with her second goal of the season, and Schwarz gave Bucknell its second tally on a penalty kick with just over 12 minutes remaining.
Junior Kelly Kannen played the second half and allowed just one goal.
The Bison resume non-league play on Sunday when they host St. Joseph's University at 2 p.m.
