PHILADELPHIA - Lauren Campbell scored off a rebound of her own shot 1:04 into sudden-death overtime, lifting Bucknell to a 1-0 victory at LaSalle in a non-league field hockey contest Tuesday afternoon. The Bison, who have gone to overtime in each of their last three contests, are now 4-2 on the season, their best six-game start since 1995.
Playing for the first time since a 4-3 overtime win at Monmouth nine days ago, the Bison saw their first 13 shots saved by LaSalle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Bolger's 13th stop came on Campbell's drive off a penalty corner in the early moments of overtime, but Campbell pounced on the rebound and lifted it over the Explorer netminder's right shoulder for her second goal of the year.
Bucknell goalie Sonja Wettergreen (3-1) turned aside four LaSalle shots and extended her personal scoreless string to 216:56. The junior has not allowed a goal since Bucknell's season-opening 2-1 loss to Drexel. It was her second shutout of the campaign.
The Bison held a lopsided 15-4 shot edge over the Explorers (2-2) while gaining a 13-10 advantage in penalty corners. LaSalle's head coach, Sarah Catlin, is a 1998 Bucknell graduate who played under current Bison coach Heather Lewis.
Bucknell returns to action this Saturday when Lafayette visits Lewisburg for a 1 p.m. start. It will be the Bison's Patriot League opener.
