LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Lisa Bingaman snapped a scoreless tie with 19:30 remaining and Bucknell's defense limited Siena to only six shots in a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon at West Field. The Bison improved to 1-1 on the young season, while Siena fell to 0-2.
Bucknell controlled play throughout the contest but could not solve Saints goalie Kristen Heyde until the game's 52nd minute. Bingaman tipped a crossing pass from Annie Hunsicker into the left corner of the cage for a 1-0 Bison lead.
The hosts had 21 penalty corners in the came, but could not convert until their final two chances. With 12:49 remaining, senior Melissa Maher scored her first goal of the season, and just over eight minutes later junior Amy Marvel tallied from the top of the circle. Senior Lauren Campbell assisted on both insurance goals.
Bison goalie Sonja Wettergreen was called upon to make only two saves, as Bucknell held a 29-6 shot advantage. Siena's best scoring opportunity came late in the first half, when Lacee Iselo trickled a shot past Wettergreen that just rolled wide of the cage. Iselo registered four of the Saints' six shots in the game.
Bucknell returns to action this Tuesday when it hosts Towson at West Field at 5 p.m.
