LEWISBURG, PA --- Bucknell University senior women's basketball player Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) has been chosen to serve as the Patriot League's Student-Athlete Representative to the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the upcoming academic year. LeBlanc was unanimously appointed to the position by the Patriot League and an NCAA committee.
In her new role, LeBlanc will discuss the merits of current NCAA legislation, evaluate legislative proposals, and talk about other important student-athlete welfare issues with the appointed student-athletes that comprise the national committee. The NCAA SAAC will meet during official NCAA conferences, beginning with an upcoming meeting in Monterey, California, this weekend.
LeBlanc, the captain of last year's record-setting women's basketball team, said, "I am excited to be a part of this committee and look forward to having the ability to relay the views, positions and feelings of the Patriot League and Bucknell University. My association with this group will allow me to pass on anything valuable that I learn to the Patriot League and the Bucknell University Student-Athlete Committees."
LeBlanc was recently named the "Chair" of the Bucknell University SAAC, an organization that acts as the "voice" for the entire student-athlete body and undertakes numerous community service projects. Up until now, the Bucknell SAAC has provided the athletic and university administration with feedback on several important issues, such as the new recreation and athletics center and class attendance policies.
Earlier this summer, LeBlanc was one of 300 student-athletes selected for the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference. The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities.
LeBlanc was the first student-athlete chosen to attend the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference from Bucknell, and is the first to serve as the Patriot League's Representative to the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
