Softball Player Kelly Dugan Named to District 2 Verizon Academic All-America Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior first baseman Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America District 2 Softball Second Team. The team was announced on Thursday, May 10. To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Dugan makes her first appearance on the all-academic team in her third season with the squad. A 3.45 Psychology major with a minor in Religion, Dugan has had an equally impressive career on the diamond for Bucknell. This season, she finished fourth on the team with a career-high batting average of .306. She reached career bests in hits (41), triples (3) and runs scored (16), and tied her high with 19 runs batted in. Defensively, Dugan was again solid at first base, committing only eight errors in a team-high 335 chances for a .976 fielding percentage.
Off the field, Dugan is a member of the Dean's List, a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and has been inducted into the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society.
The Bucknell softball team finished the season with a 19-26-2 overall record, matching the highest win total since 1996.
