ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior outfielder Eric Fishman (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) slapped a bloop double down the left field line to score what turned out to be the game-winning runs in Bucknell's 6-4 win over Navy in the first game of the Patriot League Championship series. The Bison can advance to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 1996 with a win over the Mids tomorrow at Max Bishop Stadium.
Bucknell (30-17) defeated Holy Cross 10-4 in the elimination game in order to reach the championship series with the top-seeded Midshipmen (21-24-1).
The story of the day for the Bison was freshman reliever Kevin Miller (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) who picked up wins in both games for the Orange and Blue. He improved to 7-0 on the season and set a Patriot League Tournament record with the two wins. Junior closer Gregg Farmery (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) came on in the ninth against Navy to pick up his seventh save of the season, setting a Bucknell school record. Senior Brad Gething (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) had the hot stick for Bucknell, going 4-for-5 with a home run in the win over Navy.
Bucknell and Navy will meet again tomorrow at 12:00 noon. If the Bison win they will advance to the NCAA Regionals. If Navy wins, a third and deciding game will follow 30 minutes after the opener.
