Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell sophomore Nicole Kallis (Stevensville, Md./St. Mary's) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of April in Lacrosse.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 30. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of April, as selected by their respective coaches, were sophomore Khadija Shariff in Outdoor Track & Field, junior Kristin Inglis in tennis, sophomore Brandi Porter in softball, sophomore Lindsay Chesterfield in water polo, and seniors Jessica Smith and Stephanie Sturm in crew.
Kallis had an amazing month of April with the Bison as she helped Bucknell to a 5-2 record during the month. During the month of April, Kallis was named as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week a total of three times. In a crucial 11-7 victory over Lehigh, Kallis recorded a season-high 18 saves against the Mountain Hawks. The Orange and Blue won their final four contests and in those contests Kallis only allowed the opponent to score five, seven, seven, and ten goals, respectively. Avoiding the sophomore slump, Kallis finishes the 2001 ledger with a 61.7% save percentage and 8.59 goals against average. Kallis earned post-season honors from the Patriot League by being named to the All-League Second Team.
The women's lacrosse team won its final four games of the season to finish with an 8-9 overall record and 2-3 conference tally. The Herd narrowly missed making the inaugural Patriot League Tournament by losing a tiebreaker to Colgate.
