Softball Pitcher Honored At Weekly Women's Luncheon

Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell sophomore Brandi Porter (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of April in Softball.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 30. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of April, as selected by their respective coaches, were sophomore Khadija Shariff in Outdoor Track & Field, seniors Jessica Smith and Stephanie Sturm in crew, sophomore Lindsay Chesterfield in water polo, junior Kristin Inglis in tennis, and sophomore Nicole Kallis in lacrosse.
After starting the month of April of slowly, Porter received her first victory of the month in a 12-1 decision over the Army Black Knights. Porter pitched a solid seven innings with three strikeouts while only allowing one earned run. She went on the win her next outing against Holy Cross in a tight 4-3 decision in which she went the full seven innings. Porter defeated Holy Cross again during the month, this time in Worcester, Mass., to extend her winning streak to three games. In a doubleheader at home versus Lafayette, Porter recorded one victory and one save in two Bison wins. Her finest outing of the season was against non-league opponent St. Francis (PA) on April 24. Porter struck out seven in the contest while pitching seven innings of scoreless softball.
The Bison are currently 17-26-2 overall and will conclude their 2001 season with a home doubleheader versus Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, May 1, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
