LEWISBURG, Pa. --- Bucknell junior Kevin McDowell (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) was named the Patriot League's Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 1, 2001.
McDowell, who is on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery, tossed six scoreless innings leading Bucknell to a 2-0 victory in its Patriot League opener against Lafayette last Saturday afternoon. He allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out seven en route to his second victory of the season. The hard throwing left-hander dropped his season earned run average to 2.77.
McDowell has now appeared in four games this season, and is 2-1. The coaching staff has slowly worked him back into the rotation, allowing him to pitch an inning against Miami University (Ohio), two against Navy, and then four against Slippery Rock before his longest outing of the season on Saturday. He has struck out 16 batters in 13 innings pitched, and the opposition is hitting just .152 against him.
Bucknell is currently 14-9 overall (4-0 in the Patriot League) and will be back in action on Wednesday, April 4, when it hosts Binghamton in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
