LEWISBURG, Pa. --- Bucknell goalie Justin Sussman (Baltimore, Md./Friends Academy) was named the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Division I Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 1, 2001.
In one of the biggest weeks in recent Bucknell lacrosse history, Sussman turned in two fine performances between the pipes for the 11th-ranked Bison. He began the week with 14 saves in a hard-fought 8-4 setback at top-ranked Maryland, and followed that with a tremendous individual effort in Bucknell's 12-4 Patriot League win over 12th-ranked Hobart.
Against the Statesman Sussman registered 26 saves, many of which came in one-on-one opportunities, and held Hobart scoreless in the first quarter. Bucknell jumped to a 4-0 lead in that time and never looked back on its way to improving to 7-2 on the season. 17 of his 26 saves came in the first half as the Orange and Blue built a 6-2 lead.
The victory over Hobart puts Bucknell in the drivers seat in the conference with two Patriot League games remaining. The Bison play at Colgate on April 14 and at Lehigh on April 28. The Herd can clinch the crown and the league's automatic berth into the NCAA's by winning both games, or the combination of one win and a Lehigh loss in any of the Mountain Hawks remaining four league games.
Sussman, who recorded 40 saves and a save percentage of 77 in last weeks games, is leading the Patriot League with an overall save percentage of 67%. He was also honored by the Patriot League as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Bucknell will be back in action against 8th-ranked Georgetown on Wednesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m. on Davis Gym Field.
