INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday that Bucknell junior Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) has been selected to participate in the fifth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference.
LeBlanc, a junior captain on the record-setting Bucknell women's basketball team, was one of 300 student-athletes chosen from across the nation to participate. The winners were selected from a total of 1,084 nominations from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. The conference will be held May 28 through June 1, 2001, at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
"Mo" is the vocal leader of a Bison team that set a school-record with 20 wins this season. She was recently honored by the coaching staff at the team's postseason banquet with the Defensive Player of the Year Award. A tireless worker, her accomplishments are far reaching. Through all of her academic and athletic accomplishments, "Mo" has found time to give back to the community through her efforts with SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) and BAAD (Bucknell Athletes Against Drugs & Alcohol). In addition, she also serves on the Bucknell Orientation Panel.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities. As a result of participation, the student-athletes will enhance their communications skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, critical-thinking skills, and collaborative skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
"Mo" is the first student-athlete at Bucknell to be chosen to attend the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference.
