LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team improved to 6-1 overall with a 6-1 victory over visiting St. Joseph's University on Thursday, March 29. The match was contested indoors at the West Branch Tennis Club due to the inclement weather.
The Bison took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Senior Jeff Gould (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) and sophomore Todd Jacobs (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) teamed up at the first doubles flight for an 8-0 win, and juniors Scott Allen (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Lee Scarborough (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) played the second doubles flight, winning 8-4.
In singles action, pro set scoring was used because of time constraints. St. Joseph's claimed the number one singles match, but the Orange and Blue were victorious in the other five to take the match, 6-1. Junior co-captain Alex Davydov (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury) defeated Damon Dennin, 9-7, at the second spot, while Allen and Jacobs picked up 8-6 wins at the third and fourth flights, respectively. Senior co-captain Hayes Hopple (Wilton, Conn./Saint Georges School) picked up an 8-3 victory at the fifth flight, and Scarborough finished out the singles competition with an 8-3 win at the sixth spot.
Bucknell improves to 6-1 overall and will take to the road for a 1:00 p.m. match at Binghamton on Saturday, March 31. St. Joseph's falls to 4-10 overall.
