LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team went 1-3 on the weekend, hosting the second set of College Water Polo Association Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Southern Division League games on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25. The Bison opened the weekend with an 11-8 setback to George Washington, before picking up a 12-8 win over Salem International on Saturday. On Sunday, BU fell to Villanova, 8-5, and Princeton, 14-7.
Against Villanova, four different players scored for Bucknell as Villanova held the Bison scoreless for the first two quarters on its way to building a 3-0 lead. The Orange and Blue got on the board in the third quarter, tallying three goals to the Wildcats two, but it was too little, too late. Villanova outscored BU, 3-2, in the final quarter to claim the 8-5 victory. Freshman Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) led the Bucknell attack with two goals and one assist.
In the final game of the day, BU took on Princeton, falling 14-7. Senior co-captain Paige Cull (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) led the Bison with three goals, but it was a six goal third quarter by the Tigers that doomed Bucknell.
Bucknell falls to 12-11 overall and 2-6 in league play. The Bison await word to find out if they have received a bid to the ECAC Championships, held at Princeton on Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 1.
