Bison Softball Team Makes it 5-3-1 on the Year

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bucknell's softball team improved to 5-3-1 with a convincing 9-3 victory over Manhattan on Thursday, March 15, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The win redeemed BU's 5-0 loss to the Jasper's the day before.
Manhattan struck first, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, before the Bison took the lead with two runs in the second. The Jaspers evened the game at 2-2 with a score in their half of the third inning and the two teams carried the tie into the fourth.
The Orange and Blue broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, exploding for six runs on four hits, while taking advantage of three Manhattan errors in the frame. The Bison added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 9-2, before allowing the Jasper's one more run in their half of the seventh.
Junior tri-captain Jenna Demetriades (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua) broke out of a slump, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Senior tri-captain Charity Ford (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport) was also 2-for-4, scoring twice and batting in one. Junior first baseman Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) and sophomore shortstop Meredith Gill (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) were both 2-for-4 in the contest with one run batted in and one run scored.
Sophomore Brandi Porter (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) pitched a complete game for the Orange and Blue, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out five.
Bucknell is 5-3-1 and will play Quincy at 4:00 p.m.
