LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's basketball team used a 30-8 run to close out the first half, and never faltered in the second, en route to an 88-60 win over visiting Colgate in Patriot League basketball action on Saturday, February 17. With the win, the 2000-01 Bucknell squad set a new school record for wins in a season, posting a 19-6 overall mark and a 9-2 record in league play.
Trailing 20-16 with 10:26 left in the first half, the Bison mounted a 14-0 run that spanned five minutes to take a 30-20 lead they would never relinquish. The Orange and Blue shot 57.6% in the half, while holding Colgate to just 34.5% from the floor, to carry a 46-28 lead into the locker rooms. Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) led all scorers at the intermission with 13 points.
Bucknell quickly built its lead to 24, 58-34, five minutes into the second half behind a 12-6 run to open the frame. The Red Raiders refused to quit, however, and put together a 14-5 spurt to cut the BU lead to 15, 63-48, with 11:52 left in the contest. It was all Bucknell from there, as the Bison closed the game on a 25-12 tear to come away with the 88-60 victory.
Almind and junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) shared game-high scoring honors with 17 a piece. Quimby also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her third-consecutive double double, her ninth of the season. Also in double figures scoring for Bucknell were sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and junior Kate Rounsley (Lock Haven, Pa./Lock Haven) with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Colgate placed three players in double digits on the afternoon. Colleen McCaffrey led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Sarah Parks added 14 and Alison Hanson scored 11 points.
Bucknell improves to 19-6 overall and 9-2 in Patriot League play. The Red Raiders fall to 4-21 overall and 1-9 in the conference. The Bison are in action again on Wednesday, February 21, when they host Lehigh for the final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
