LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Abby Weaver has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of December in swimming & diving.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Dec. 3. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of December, as selected by their respective coaches, were junior Molly Creamer in basketball and junior Theresa Dennis in cross country.
Weaver, a team co-captain, has helped the Bison to a 2-2 start this season, with victories over Drexel as well as well as Patriot League rival Army. She won both the 50 free (25.49) and the 100 free (55.06) in the team's 203-70 win over Drexel, and she contributed a win in the 100 free (55.48) to help the Bison defeat Army, 153.5-89.5.
The 2000-01 Patriot League Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year, Weaver has broken into nine different Bucknell all-time top 10 lists in individual or relay events. She is a member of the 800 freestyle relay team that owns the school record of 7:47.99, a record that was set last season.
The swimming & diving teams will return to action on Jan. 4, when they travel to the Florida Atlantic University Invitational.
