
Bucknell Track & Field Teams Open 2001-02 Season with the Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University track and field teams kicked off their 2001-02 season with six individual victories today at the Bucknell Invitational in the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
No team scoring was kept at the meet.
Sophomore Noel Powell led the Bison men's team with two first-place finishes, winning the long jump (23'0") and the 200 meter dash (22.31). He also anchored the winning 1,600 meter relay team, as he made up a 10-meter deficit to rally his team from behind.
Junior Adam Kaufman, sophomore Thomas Prochilo and sophomore Emory Strother came away with one victory apiece for the Bison. Kaufman placed first in the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 52' 4 ?", which ranks as the seventh-best throw all-time at Bucknell. Prochilo captured the 800 meter run in 1:57.37, while Strother came out on top in the high jump with a leap of 6'5".
On the women's side, seniors Stephanie Bango and Andrea Nyce turned in one individual victory apiece. Bango won the 800 meter run in 2:13.45, and Nyce took first in the pole vault with an 11'0" effort.
Bucknell also had a pair of freshmen break into the school's all-time top-10 list in their respective events. Amy Calvo took third in the 400 meter dash, and her time of 59.00 was the fifth-fastest time in school history. In addition, Ryan Newberger raced to a 22.78 clocking to finish fourth in the 200 meter dash. His time tied for the eighth-best performance in the 200 meter dash in BU history.
The Bison return to the Gerhard Fieldhouse next Saturday for the Bison Heptagonal.
