
Bucknell Track & Field Hosts 27 Schools at the Bison Open

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Although most of their top athletes competed at the Penn State National Open, the remainder of the Bucknell University track & field teams fared well this afternoon at the Bison Open.
The non-scoring meet consisted of 28 schools from five different states.
The Bison women's team turned in four first-place performances. With a winning throw of 48'8 ?", sophomore Maria Garcia led a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep in the weight throw. Freshman Liz Pendelton placed second in the event with a toss of 46'4 ?", and sophomore Erin Lee was third at 45'6 ?".
Other winners for the women's team included senior Kim Zimbal and sophomore Robin Meling. Zimbal placed first among 29 competitors in the long jump with a winning leap of 17'0", while Meling bounded 35'9 ?" in the triple jump. In addition, Bucknell's distance medley relay team of junior Michelle Baylor, senior Kristin Kyzmir, junior Nicki Piper and freshman Jennifer Marsh placed first in 12:51.46. Marsh also placed third in the mile in 5:22.13.
Also placing among the top three for the women's team were freshman Vanessa Augeri in the 800m run (second, 2:24.83), senior Shannon Maher in the high jump (second, 5'3"), senior Samantha Klotz in the pole vault (third, 10'4") and senior Andrea Nyce in the triple jump (35'8 ?").
Senior Travis Etters was the top performer for the men's team. Etters placed second in the 3,000m run in 8:55.72. Sophomore Kevin Walsh also broke the top three for Bucknell, as he took third in the 1,000m run in 2:37.34.
Both the men's and women's teams will pick up their schedule next Saturday at the Ohio State Invitational.
