ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior co-captain Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) scored a career-high seven goals as the Bucknell men's water polo team defeated Johns Hopkins, 11-9, at the Southern Division Championship on Sunday at Navy to earn third place at the tournament. It is only the second time in five meetings this season that the Bison have defeated the Blue Jays, ranked second in the latest Division III national poll.
In addition to scoring seven times, McCarty also passed out one assist and grabbed two steals. With his career goal total now at 174, McCarty needs just ten scores to jump into the Bucknell top-10 all-time list.
Sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) ended the game with five points, scoring two goals and passing out three assists. Saettele shared the team-lead in helpers with senior co-captain David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School). Kennedy was also masterful in net, stopping 17 shots to raise his school record career total to 961 saves.
The Bison improve to 12-15 overall and will be in competition next at the Eastern Championship, held November 17-18 at Princeton.
