
Bucknell Men's Water Polo Ends Season With Seventh Place Finish at Eastern Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior co-captain David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) recorded his 1,000th career save as the Bucknell men's water polo team earned seventh place at the Eastern Championship with a 9-7 overtime victory against Johns Hopkins, the second ranked team in the nation in Division III. The Championship was held at Princeton University this weekend.
Kennedy made 15 stops in the contest to give him 1,002 over his four-year career. Earlier this season, he broke the school record with his 834th save in a 9-8 overtime victory against George Washington on October 20. Kennedy also recorded a team-best four steals and three assists in the Bucknell win over Johns Hopkins this morning.
The Orange and Blue got a team effort offensively with six different players scoring, including two each from senior co-captain Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School), junior Chris Saxton (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and freshman Elliot Benoist (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School). In addition, McCarty added two assists. Sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) scored once and handed out two assists, while freshman Aaron Platshon (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School) had one goal and one assist, and classmate James Danforth (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) scored once.
Joining Kennedy with a solid defensive effort was Danforth, tallying three steals, and junior Daniel Lonnerdal (Davis, Calif./Davis) with two take-away's.
The Bison end their season with a 13-17 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Southern Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
