
Bucknell Men's Water Polo Defeats George Washington, 12-6, at Southern Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) led the Bucknell men's water polo squad with five goals as the Bison defeated George Washington for the fourth time this season in game one of the Southern Division Championship. The conference tournament is being held at Navy on Friday-Sunday, November 2-4.
McCarty scored his five goals on five-of-five shooting from the field. In addition, the co-captain grabbed two steals and recorded one ejection drawn. Freshmen Elliot Benoist (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) and James Danforth (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) also got involved offensively, tallying three and two goals, respectively. Danforth joined McCarty and senior goalkeeper David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) with a game-high two steals.
Sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) had a solid all around game, scoring once, passing out one assist, grabbing one steal, recording two ejections drawn and going three-for-three in sprints. Accounting for Bucknell's other score was freshman Aaron Platshon (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo School). The rookie was one-for-one from the field, also registering two assists, one steal and going one-for-one in the sprint category.
In addition to his two steals, Kennedy doled out two assists and recorded a season-high 18 saves, while allowing just six goals.
The Bison improve to 10-14 overall and will face Washington & Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
