LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey star Lauren Campbell (Harleyville, Pa./Souderton H.S.) culminated a terrific senior campaign by being named to the 2001 STX/NFHCA All-America Third Team. Campbell is the first Bison field hockey player to earn national All-America plaudits.
Earlier this month Campbell was named to the All-Mideast Region First Team, which qualified her for the national team. Campbell was named to the all-region first team after earning second-team honors last season. She was an All-Patriot League selection this fall and was invited to the North-South All-Star Game.
Campbell, who started all but one game for the Bison over the last three years, enjoyed another outstanding season in 2001. She finished second on the team with 14 points (five goals, four assists), with two of those goals coming in a 3-2 win over American in the season finale. She was also one of the team's top defenders, as she ranked among the Bucknell leaders with 44 interceptions and led the team with 68 positive tackles.
"This is truly a wonderful accomplishment for Lauren," said Bucknell head coach Heather Lewis. "It's a result of her hard work, commitment and desire to be the absolute best she could possibly have been. I'm very happy for her as she is being recognized as one of the best in this country."
Joining Campbell on the All-America Third Team were Morgan Brady of Maine, Jessica Coleman of Virginia, Traci Forchetti of James Madison, Catherine Foreman of Michigan, Tara Hermann of Old Dominion, Christy Hershey of Louisville, Helen Jerdan of Kent State, Timarie Legel of Penn State, Tiffany Leister of Iowa, Tovia Martirosian of Yale, Lauren Mazziotto of Ohio, Andschana Mendes of Rutgers, Claire Miller of Princeton, Carolyn Steele of Dartmouth and Ameilie Wulff of Boston College.
Campbell is only the fifth Patriot League All-American in the sport of field hockey and the first non-Lafayette player.
