LEWISBURG, Pa. - The NCAA has released its 2001 Women's Soccer Championship bracket, and Bucknell has been paired with Penn State in the opening round.
The Bison and the Nittany Lions will meet in State College on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Both Bucknell and Penn State earned automatic bids into the tournament by virtue of their conference tournament victories yesterday. Bucknell defeated Navy 2-1 in overtime to capture the Patriot League Championship title, while Penn State defeated Illinois 2-1 in overtime to win the Big 10 Conference Championship.
The Bison lost 9-2 when the teams squared off at Penn State on Sept. 25. Penn State holds a 6-0 all-time advantage over Bucknell. The Nittany Lions were ranked eighth in the most recent national poll.
Penn State is one of 16 schools selected to host first and second round matches. Villanova and Penn will also face off in State College at 8 p.m. on Friday in the first round, and the winner of that match will take on the Bucknell-Penn State winner at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the second round.
Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Gates will open one hour prior to kick-off.
