The Bison's Patriot League title hopes were dashed in a 21-14 loss to No. 7 Lehigh on Saturday ... Bucknell's defense limited powerful Lehigh to 257 total yards (170 below its season average) and forced five turnovers, but the offense could only convert the five takeaways into seven points ... it was Bucknell's first home loss of the season and it came on Senior Day, as 22 Bison seniors played in their final home contest ... a season-high 8,831 fans watched the game, the largest crowd at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium this season and the fourth-largest since the facility was remodeled in 1989 ... it was also the largest turnout for a non-Homecoming or Parents' Weekend game during that span ... at home, the Bison are 28-10 under Tom Gadd and 9-2 over the last two seasons ... against Lehigh, junior QB Todd Wenrich completed 21 of 38 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns ... Wenrich tossed a 4-yard TD pass to junior FB Todd Warmington to give Bucknell a 7-0 lead five minutes into the game, and he connected with sophomore WR Albert Marquardt on a 39-yard strike in the fourth quarter to cut into a 21-7 deficit ... Wenrich's favorite target again was junior WR Jim Horan, who made 10 catches for a career-high 129 yards ... it was Horan's second straight 100-yard effort, and he now has 30 grabs in the last three games ... Horan has 53 catches this season, fourth-most in school history, and his 121 career receptions rank sixth all-time at Bucknell, just one behind Ron Rockett (1995-98) for fifth place ... Wenrich broke single-season school records for completions (194) and attempts (352) in Saturday's game ... Jim Fox set the previous marks in 1995, when he completed 192 of 344 tosses ... the Bison played the entire second half without star senior RB Jabu Powell, who left with a sprained ankle ... Powell had 27 yards on seven carries ... he needs 81 yards in his career finale against Colgate next week to reach 3,000 career rushing yards ... sophomore RB Jess Brinson led the Bison in rushing against Lehigh with 67 ground yards on 15 carries ... the Herd rushed for only 95 yards as a team, the third time this season they have been held below 100 ... senior CB George Cowan was credited with the most unusual 19-yard rush of the season ... Bucknell had a punt blocked in the second quarter, but Cowan picked up the loose ball and alertly ran for a first down ... senior OLB Mark Tallman enjoyed a terrific final home game, as he accounted for three of the Bison's five takeaways when he recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass ... Tallman also added five tackles and a sack in his 31st consecutive start ... junior OLB Juan Morales led the Bison with eight tackles (six solo) ... freshman DT Cory Mayo made his first career start and made a huge defensive play early in the third quarter to stop a potential Lehigh scoring drive ... he stripped Mountain Hawk RB Jermaine Pugh and recovered the fumble at the Bucknell 15-yard line ... sophomore ILB Vic Cole recorded his first career interception on Lehigh's opening drive ... he returned the pickoff to the visitors' 15, setting up Bucknell's first score of the day ... the Bison wrap up their 2001 season next Saturday at Colgate (6-3, 4-1).
