STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's swimming and diving team placed third, and the women's team came in fourth this afternoon at the Penn State Invitational.
The men's squad finished with 496 points, good enough to defeat Villanova, which accumulated 366 points. The Bison finished behind meet winner Penn State (1,399) and West Chester (761).
The Bison women totaled 527 points on the afternoon to finish behind West Chester (656.5), Villanova (720) and Penn State (1,214.5).
Adam Freeman led the men's team with a first-place performance in the 1-meter diving (254 points) and a third-place showing in the 3-meter (210.30 points). Stelios Saffos contributed with a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:01.46) and the 200 breast (2:15.09).
On the women's side, Jamie Flick continued her hot start for the Bison this season. The freshman placed fourth out of 17 competitors in the 100 breast, and broke the Bucknell record in the event with a 1:06.64 clocking. After setting the BU record in the 200 breast (2:26.68) in the team's season-opener at Army on Oct. 27., Flick has now broken two school records in three meets.
Both teams will travel to Navy next Saturday. While the men's team will participate in a dual meet with first-year Patriot League member American, the women's team will compete in a tri-meet with American and Navy.
