LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior Sonja Wettergreen has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of October in field hockey.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Oct. 8. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of October, as selected by their respective coaches, were sophomore Brandi Trapasso in volleyball, senior Becki Marshall in cross country, junior Molly Campbell in golf and senior Ali Chandler in soccer.
Wettergreen was strong in the Bucknell cage in losses to a pair of top 20 teams this week. The goalkeeper made eight saves and limited No. 17 Penn State to just one goal in the first 58 minutes of action on Tuesday. Wettergreen then added a season-high 16 stops in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to No. 20 Holy Cross, including five saves in overtime.
Wettergreen entered this week ranked fourth nationally in save percentage (.860) and eighth in goals against average (1.01). She has posted a 4-4 record while picking up 51 saves for the season.
Bucknell continues its difficult stretch in the schedule this Tuesday when it visits Lock Haven, ranked No. 1 in Division II.
