Bucknell won its third straight contest Saturday in convincing fashion, routing Towson 51-10 in the Bison's Patriot League opener ... now 3-1, 1-0, Bucknell improved to 6-1 in league openers under head coach Tom Gadd ... the Bison raced to a 30-0 halftime lead, scoring on their first four offensive possessions ... Bucknell scored the game's first 37 points, giving it 75 unanswered points dating back to the second quarter of last week's 38-6 win over St. Mary's ... the Orange and Blue racked up 507 total yards and scored their most points since a 51-17 win over Fordham in 1996 ... the 41-point margin of victory was the team's largest since a 62-20 win over Columbia in 1987, and it was Bucknell's largest ever in a Patriot League game ... the win was the 45th of Gadd's Bucknell career, tying him with Harry Lawrence (1947-57) for second on Bucknell's all-time list behind only Bob Curtis (48, from 1975-85) ... senior TB Jabu Powell and junior QB Todd Wenrich paced the offensive explosion ... Powell rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, and also added four catches for 48 yards ... he leaped two spots on Bucknell's all-time rushing list and now stands No. 2 all-time with 2,650 career yards ... Saturday he passed Brad Myers (2,622 from 1950-52) and Brian Henesey (2,649 from 1988-91) on the all-time chart ... with his 12th career 100-yard rushing effort, Powell surpassed the 4,000 all-purpose yard plateau and now stands third in BU annals with 4,131 yards ... Wenrich began the day 7-for-7 passing before finally misfiring on Bucknell's third offensive series ... by then it already had a 14-0 lead ... Wenrich finished 19 of 33 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception ... his 37-yard strike to WR Albert Marquardt opened the scoring ... Wenrich completed passes to eight different receivers, six of which had at least two catches ... it was also a "feel-good" day for senior FB Jason Marrow, who returned after missing the last dozen games due to injury ... Marrow had seven carries for 16 yards and a touchdown, the 31st TD of his career, which ranks fourth in school history ... Marrow's 2000 season was limited to two games due to a broken fibula, and a hamstring ailment kept him sidelined for the first three contests of this season ... the 51-point explosion overshadowed the second straight suffocating performance by the Bucknell defense ... the Bison limited Towson to a meager 13 rushing yards, including minus-3 in the second half ... Bucknell forced five turnovers and did not allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter, when most starters were on the sidelines ... senior CB Reed Tunison returned an interception 37 yards for a second-quarter score, the first of his career ... sophomore SS Virgil Rush added his second interception of the year, and freshman CB Joe Glenn picked off his first career pass in his initial varsity appearance ... NG Adam Lord was credited with a sack (one of four BU sacks on the day), a forced fumble and a recovered fumble ... freshman RB Raphael Darrington's first career carry resulted in a 2-yard touchdown run ... the TD came one play after CB George Cowan blocked a punt, Bucknell's first kick block of the year ... the Bison are now 7-7 all-time against Towson after avenging two straight last-minute losses to the Tigers ... Bucknell visits Lafayette next week at 1:30 p.m.
